Pediatric Orthodontist in Miami

Orthodontic treatment helps your child bite and chew properly and contributes to clear speech patterns. When teeth function properly, a natural byproduct is that they also tend to look good. An attractive smile is a pleasant side effect of orthodontic treatment and can have emotional benefits for children and adults. Self-confidence and self-esteem can improve as orthodontic treatment balances the teeth, lips, and face. Straight teeth are also less prone to cavities, gum disease, and injury, in addition to better gum health, balanced jaw muscle kinetics, and increased self-confidence.

What happens at the orthodontist?

Dr. Ross or an assistant will take 1. X-rays of your mouth, 2. Images of your teeth, and 3. A digital impression of your teeth. The X-rays are called a panoramic image and a cephalometric image, the clinical images are approximately eight images taken with a camera, and using the iTero scanner, images of your teeth will be scanned and instantly transferred to a 3-D model. When the scan is complete (in less than a few minutes), there will be a perfect three-dimensional digital mold of your teeth on the computer!
Dr. Ross will examine your teeth, images, X-rays, and digital impression, which together are called “orthodontic records.” From that information, a diagnosis is extrapolated to provide an individualized course of orthodontic treatment for you or your little champion.

When should my child or I see an orthodontist?

There is no set age for a child's first visit to the orthodontist: some children go when they are 6, others when they are 10, and others when they are teenagers. Even adults may need orthodontic treatment. Many orthodontists say that children should see an orthodontist once their permanent teeth start coming in, around age 7.

If your child's teeth are crowded, protruding, too far apart, abnormally aligned, or not aligned at all, correction may be recommended. Braces and aligners are the most common “appliances” orthodontists use to guide teeth into their correct positions. Retainers preserve and stabilize the results of your orthodontic treatment.
